The Rias Baixas appellation of origin appears in 1988, consisted of three sub-areas or regions wine (Val do Salnés, Tea County and O Rosal) later joined Soutomaior and since 2000 has the fifth district, Ribeira do Ulla.

They have common characteristics, climate, influenced by the Atlantic with mild temperatures and high rainfall and soil, sandy and poor, but also have their own particularities.

The subzone of Val do Salnés, is the largest wine area, is centered in Cambados and also includes the municipalities of Meaño, Sanxenxo, Ribadumia, Meis, Vilanova de Auros, A Illa de Auros, Portas, Caldas de Reis, Vilagracía of Auros, O Grove and Clay.

Condado do Tea, is a sub-area lying along the right bank of the river Minho, to the limit with the province of Ourense. It includes the towns of Salvaterra de Miño, As Neves, Arbo, Crecente, Salceda de Caselas, Ponteareas and parishes of A Cañiza, Tui and Mos.

The third sub pioneer in this appellation of origin, O Rosal is located in the lower basin of the River Minho (Baixo Miño) comprise the municipalities of O Rosal, Tomino, A Guarda and parishes of the municipalities of Tui and Gondomar.

Soutomaior, he joined the denomination of origin as a natural extension of Val do Salnés in 1996. And is located on the Left Bank Verdugo.

The latest to join the sub-appellation of origin has been Rías Baixas Ribeira do Ulla.

These five sub-areas currently contributing more than 2,400 hectares of vineyards, with preferential white varieties: Albariño, white or Loureira Marquis Treixadura, white Caiño, which accompany the Torrontes and Godello. And inks: Caiño red Sousón, Mencia Espadeiro. Loureira ink, also under the Brancellao.

Among the white grape varieties is remarkable the Albariño, which leaves no doubt one of the best white wines in the country and possibly the world, its straw yellow with gold trimmings and noble powerful aromas, fruity and floral, envelopes intoxicating, accompany their passage through the mouth with fleshy and smoothness, so make this wine is possibly one of the best whites of the world.
